‘MIDI’ is the language that we use to get music into a computer (excluding audio recording). Think notes, velocity and timing. The notes could be added with a mouse and played back via virtual instruments but this is a tedious and uncreative way of working. This is where MIDI instruments come into play.

Often styled like a piano or drum, MIDI instruments allow us to input this information into our DAW by utilising musical skills like chord knowledge, rhythm and feel.
